According to the National Institute on Money in State Politics (9), Howard Rich and his allies first began testing the waters in South Carolina with smaller contributions to a small number of candidates several years ago. They really started the heavy funneling of his shady contributions into South Carolina during the 2006 elections. They spent $200,000 in this election cycle. Below are the top recipients of these contributions.

$12,000 - R - Sheri Few - Legislative Candidate (lost)
$10,000 - R - Kit Spires - Legislative Candidate (won)
$9,000 - R - Mick Mulvaney - Legislative Candidate (won)
$9,000 - R - Jim Harrison - Legislative Candidate (won)
$8,000 – Write in Candidate - Michael Letts - Legislative Candidate (lost)
$7,000 – R – Danny Stacy Legislative Candidate (lost)
$6,000 - Don Bowen – Legislative Candidate (won)
So far in the 2008 election cycle Howie and his allies has funneled in $579,000 to a total of 37 candidates during the primaries. $419,000 of this amount came from at least thirty different entities using the address 73 Spring St. New York City (5). Howard Rich and his allies often contributes in the few days before an election where the public does not have a chance to see the contributions. For this reason we do not know how much Rich and his allied organizations will be funneling into the campaigns of his candidates that have challengers in the General Election but you can be sure that all of his challenged candidates will be receiving large sums of his money.
